Once skaters have mastered the advanced skills of Phase 3, they are ready to begin training for turns and, shortly thereafter, straight-line skating. Through imitation exercises, we lay the foundation for proper body positioning and increasingly precise edge control. At this stage, skaters learn to stand securely on one leg and glide on a single skate. This new area of training supports technical development toward target techniques and establishes the prerequisites for stable, efficient movement patterns at higher speeds. By the end of Phase 3, skaters should be able to glide in a controlled manner on the outside edge of the inner leg—a key fundamental skill for further technical training.
